Opportunities for Play and Learning
Here is a variety of activities I have planned for different age groups to develop physical, intellectual and social skills. The children will be presented with new experiences to explore their imagination and to help them understand how the things they do can affect others and to gain a sense of what is right and wrong. The children in my care will be encouraged to develop their confidence, independence and self-esteem.
Book Worm Corner (All ages)
An opportunity for the children to familiarise themselves with books and words. A story will be read daily and the children will be encouraged to take part. This is a great confidence and team building exercise.
Soft play area (0-3yrs)
A safe, padded area for the smaller children to explore with balls and soft toys with an area of group play to encourage communication and friendship.
Music Mayhem (6months+)
Twice weekly the children will have the opportunity to “let rip” With instruments such as recorders, xylophone, keyboards and drums you will hear our tunes from miles away!
Toy Corner (0-8yrs)
A massive range of fun and educational toys to suit all ages and genders. From a kitchen area to familiarise themselves with domestic duties! To vehicles & remote control cars and play figures and dolls, also a range of educational and learning toys.
Arts and crafts (1-8yrs)
All children love to be creative. Regular activities and special occasion crafts will be made for Christmas, Easter and Birthdays. There will be painting, drawing, gluing and much stickier, messier masterpieces created in this area!
Treasure sack (1+yrs)
This is a classic learning experience for toddlers to guess what is in the bag! The children will be shown a variety of objects such as Pasta shapes, sponges and play dough before they are placed in a box. The children will feel their way around the bag and try to guess the object!
A quiet space (All ages)
As a registered childminder I believe it’s important to bring the home from home characteristic to my business. It can be a long day for little ones sometimes a sofa, movie and a drink is all they want! Children won’t be left in front of the T.V. for long periods but they are welcome to time out as they need it
The ABC’s of Teaching Play Today
You say that you love your children,
And are concerned that they learn today,
As am I, that’s why I’m providing
A variety of play.
You are asking what’s the value,
Of having your children play?
Your daughter’s creating a tower,
She might be a builder someday.
You’re asking me the value,
Of blocks a box and clay,
Your children are solving problems,
They will use that skill everyday.
You’re saying that you don’t want your son,
To play that sissy way,
He’s learning to cuddle a doll,
He may be a father someday.
You’re questioning all the toys here,
They look like useless play,
Your children are making choices,
They’ll be on their own someday.
You’re worried your children aren’t learning,
And later they’ll have to pay,
They’re learning a pattern for learning,
Then they’ll be learners every day.
